Band saws are used to cut titanium alloy rods with a thickness of 3.2 mm or more. This method does not produce edge cracks, but the disadvantage is that there are burrs, and the burrs must be polished after the blanking.
The band saw machine for sawing titanium alloy rods shall have a rigid structure with sufficient horsepower to maintain a constant speed during sawing; it shall be capable of automatically feeding, tensioning the band saw and providing sufficient coolant. The saw blade should have a certain pitch and width. The sharp edge can be maintained with the usual high speed steel belt spacing and the most constant result is obtained.
