Tantalum cannot be processed by the ordinary method of processing general metals. Generally, the initial process is a forging heat treatment, and a flat blank or a circular small and medium billet is formed by hammering and punching.
In order to manufacture a tantalum rod product, firstly, it is forged or extruded into an intermediate moderate size, and the representative section yield is 70%-90%, and then the material is subjected to annealing heat treatment. For further processing, forging, rolling, extrusion or drawing processes are usually used. The wire is processed using a conventional wire drawing machine.
Since the material of the tantalum is very soft, it is easy to produce scratches, and the surface problem in drawing is very large, and the manufacturer pays special attention to the surface condition and lubrication.
The hardness of the tantalum is moderate and malleable, and it can be drawn into a thin foil. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is small. Tantalum has excellent chemical properties and is extremely resistant to corrosion. It does not react with hydrochloric acid and concentrated nitric acid under both cold and hot conditions. It can be used to manufacture evaporation vessels, etc. It can also be used as an electrode, rectifier, electrolysis or capacitor for an electron tube. Medically used to make thin slices or thin lines, and to repair the damaged tissue.
