Molybdenum can be used to make cathode, grid, high-voltage rectifier components, filament support in incandescent lamps in the electronics industry. Its wear-resistant, heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant properties are often used in the metal processing industry, which can be used as extruded film, die casting film and mold core. Under the protection of coating, molybdenum can make rocket engine nozzle, heat shield and other parts due to the high melting point of molybdenum, good conductivity and thermal conductivity. Molybdenum and molybdenum alloys can be used in the atomic energy industry as a material for gas cooling reactor and core structural materials since the thermal neutron absorption cross section of which is small, and the stability of nuclear fuel and the corrosion resistance of liquid metal are good.
Molybdenum disulfide can be used as a solid lubricant in molybdenum compounds. Its performance is better than that of graphite, which can be normal used in - 45 ~ 400 ℃. Small amounts of molybdenum in the soil can stimulate the growth of plant. The application of trace molybdenum fertilizer could increase soybean yield by 10%~15% and rice yield by 20%~25%. So molybdenum compounds are also used in compound fertilizers.
